Honoring the Legacy of Ellen D. Osborn

The name Daniels Osborn Law Firm carries a story of family, legacy, and love. It honors attorney Ellen D. Osborn, daughter of John and Mary Daniels, who joined her father in practice in 2009 and remained an integral part of the firm until 2015, when she stepped away following her diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer. After nearly eight years of remarkable courage and strength, Ellen passed away peacefully in April 2023.

Ellen was an exceptional attorney, a gifted musician, a dedicated teacher, a loving mother, and a cherished member of the Sioux City community. Her warmth, wisdom, and generosity continue to shape the spirit and values of this firm.

Ellen’s Journey in Law — A Career Guided by Integrity and Heart

Ellen earned her undergraduate degree from Briar Cliff College and her law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. Before returning to Sioux City, she practiced with respected firms in Des Moines, Iowa, and Fresno, California, focusing on general civil litigation and education law

When she joined her father’s practice in 2009, the firm was renamed Daniels Osborn Law Firm to reflect their meaningful partnership. Her work included real estate title examinations and opinions, where she was admired for her clarity, precision, and calm, thoughtful approach. Clients consistently expressed gratitude for her ability to make complex issues feel understandable and manageable.

Ellen brought integrity, empathy, and steadiness to every matter she handled—qualities that earned the trust and respect of everyone she served.

A Life Filled With Music, Faith, and Community

Music was woven into Ellen’s life from her earliest years. As a child, she sang in church and played piano, flute, and guitar—sharing her talents with humility and joy. Her love for music grew throughout high school and college, where she appeared in numerous musical productions, including her memorable performance as Susanna in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro.

In 2010, while raising a young family and practicing law, Ellen became her church’s Director of Music, leading with grace and deep devotion.

Even during treatment, Ellen’s passion for music never dimmed. She completed a Master’s Degree in Music, taught voice at local colleges, appeared in community productions—including performances with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra—and served as a frequent judge for high school mock trial competitions.

Her discipline, resilience, and radiant love for the arts inspired everyone who knew her. Music was not simply something she did—it was something she lived.
